Sunil S. Amrith is the Mehra Family Professor of South Asian Studies and Professor of History at Harvard University and a 2017 MacArthur Foundation "Genius" fellow. He is author of Crossing the Bay of Bengal: The Furies of Nature and the Fortunes of Migrants (2013), which was a New York Times Editors' Choice and winner of the John F. Richards Prize in South Asian History, as well as several other books and articles. In 2016, he received the Infosys Prize in Humanities, India's largest research award. Raised in Singapore, he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Cambridge. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
